Just another memory

I am watching the movie Antebellum and it reminded me of one of those things that sticks with you for no apparent reason.

A long long time ago in an office far far away I was interviewing someone for a tech position. He was kind of an ass but that doesn’t preclude you from doing a good job. We were talking about his educational background and there was something about a degree in the Antebellum period and then he said “That means the time period before the civil war”. While being an ass doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be hired assuming the person who is interviewing you is too stupid to know what a word means is.

Many Many years later someone else who worked with me had a habit of explaining things to me that did not need to be explained. The end of it was when he explained how to do something on my computer, I want to say it was Cut & Paste right after explaining to me how I should close a potato chip bag. I explained to him that he was being incredibly rude and insulting and to his credit he took my critique well and made every effort to change his behavior. He was a good guy, not an ass.
