Are you ever sitting there lost in thought and suddenly you wonder how in the heck you started thinking about the effect of dust on iguanas so you stop and try and trace your thoughts backward?

Why did women start hiding their pregnant bellies?

  • Pregnancy was considered a subject you didn’t talk about
  • Pregnancy is caused by sex
  • Sex is considered something you don’t talk about
  • Women were not supposed to be have sex except with their husbands
  • Sex was considered a base desire that refined women didn’t have
  • Only unrefined poor people had a lot of children / sex

At some point in our evolution we got to this but how? We would have started differently. We started as creatures living day to day/hour to hour using our instincts. Sex and babies would have been instinctual, right? There was probably a super super high infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate. In order for the population to grow there would have been multiple partners and multiple babies. Women would have had trouble caring for multiple infants at one time in their difficult and unstable life. Once they had a baby they would probably not want another one too soon. As women evolved they would have stopped having sex in order to stop having babies to be able to take care of themselves and the babies they had.

Anywho….I think I am catching a cold. I hope not. I hope it’s just seasonal changes.

I got my blood work results and my TSH is high. Hopefully this is the reason I have been feeling so super fatigued for quite a while, and so oddly cold! I have spent a lot of summer wearing extra clothes or looking for patches of sun to warm up in.

I need a vegan Italian themed dessert.

    Lol at all the thoughts – sometimes I have a lot of trouble ascertaining just how I got to certain wonderings! The mind does make some leaps…

    I hope they can get the thyroid regulated. I would prefer to go to an endocrinologist to get the complete story on mine. But there is only one in town, and he is terrible! I feel like most physicians do not treat it adequately; TSH is not the only marker. I had problems for years that, looking back, seem likely to have been caused by thyroid problems. But I was never even tested until fairly recently, and now I have nodules, too.

    The terrible thing about it: my Daughter lost two pregnancies, and then I read an article about how thyroid levels can impact that. When she became pregnant for the third time, she INSISTED on going to an endocrinologist and found that not only were her thyroid levels way off, but she also has Hashimoto’s disease. Careful monitoring resulted in a successful pregnancy this time.

    And, the thing that bothers me the most is when I mentioned that to my doctor, also mentioned that it is often inherited so should I be tested, too, he said, no, because there’s really nothing that could be done for it!

    If I had known I had it, we would have been more aware for my daughter, and might not have lost those babies! (But don’t get me started there, because doctors don’t even worry about unsuccessful pregnancies until the third one!)

    And in my own behalf, I spent months and thousands of dollars chasing down odd symptoms that were never even pinned down, only to be told that I definition had an autoimmune disease of some kind, they just couldn’t figure out what it was. (Heavy eye roll here) Hmmm, if you read about Hashi’s, that would explain an awful lot…so frustrating.

    So if they start you out on thyroid medication and you feel better, that’s great; just keep in mind that if it isn’t effective, it may need tweaking by an endocrinologist.

    Sorry this is so long! I just feel that thyroid problems are not dealt with well, as a whole, so would try to spare other people the misery.

    I actually was diagnosed with auto-immune thyroiditis (https://www.webmd.com/women/whatis-autoimmune-thyroiditis#1) back in 2010 (ish). My thyroid at the time was 90% gone and the endocrinologist assured me within months it would be just a little lump of tissue. The ultrasound showed it was completely full of holes. He just popped me on the charted dosage for my height/weight and said no need to come back ever. My PCP however checks it regularly and dropped my dose a few years ago. I’m thinking maybe the change in chemo meds may be having an effect.
    That’s terrible about your daughter. I am very lucky because my current roster of doctors are all very good about listening to me when I say I think there is a problem, and sometimes they even put up with my own diagnosing. 🙂

    ok now I have to tell you my latest thyroid med thing. My numbers were steady for years and then they started being all over the place. I ended up on 2 different doses, one 4 times a week and one 3 times a week. It wasn’t right and I could feel it. Something that affected me was all the pharmacies started changing their generic suppliers every month. Idk if it was the micro different dosage of the meds or the different fillers in different generics, but it didn’t help me get steady numbers. I can’t take name brand synthroid because of a couple of fillers that bothered me. So….years ago a friend told me her husband was put on levoxyl and it made all the difference. So I talked to my doctor about trying it. No dairy fillers and the thing that ppl with hay fever shouldn’t take…can’t think of the name of it. (and why either of those things are put in a med is beyond me anyway) At one dosage everyday. The lower of the 2 I was on. It’s been somewhere around 2 months now and has made a huge difference. My numbers are finally in the lower end of the normal range. I dropped a bunch of weight, that feels like inflammation more than weight, and my energy has shifted,, both physical and mental. Idk if any of this will have anything to do with your stuff. I was just surprised at how much better I felt. Even though I knew I was “off”, I don’t think I realized how far off I was.

      I was thinking about that too Tami! I have a mail order pharmacy that my insurance insists I use (because of course they get it decide) and I did wonder if they had changed their manufacturer or something. I will have to take a look at lovoxyl.

    Ugh mail order pharmacies! One odd thing is when I first got my levoxyl script the nurse told me to call the pharmacies to make sure they could get it because some wouldn’t even order it because of corporate stuff. My original pharmacy said No they couldn’t order it. (???!!!!l) But then again they couldn’t order me a specific generic as they once did either) The next one I called said Yes we have it no prob. The nurse akso warned that she would fight the insurance for me when they declined to cover it. But they ok’d it first thing no problem. So thaybis all a little weird. But I guess corporate owned pharmacies are turning into walmarts or dollar stores, all about their bottom lines.
