Give me Back my word!

Elitism?

I have been holding this in for a couple of years, yes you heard me, years, but I think enough time has passed that we can discuss it like grown-ups. It is one of those weird things that is forever stuck in my head and aggravates me. Now, I will take back that mental real-estate and if it comes back again I will just link here for my thoughts on the matter.

Back in the days of Covid it suddenly became a thing, a meme, a word snobberyism that people who worked in certain fields were the only ones allowed to use the word research.

So I would like to take a moment to RESEARCH this topic. Okay, not really, just discuss it.

Let’s start slowly with the definition.

If you have an advanced degree or work in a job that has test tubes and Petri dishes you do not have sole domain over the word.

Yes, there are scientific researchers.

BUT if you want to go buy a car what do you do? You gather information and find out what car is safest, what is a good value, what is available, you do in fact research your options.

You know who else does research? Librarians. Call with a question and they will research the answer for you! Writing a book? You may research historical events and timelines.

How about students? Need to write a paper for class? You are going to research and cite your references!

Thank you that is all, my soapbox and I will now head to the shower.
