My pulmonologist prescribed symbicort two times a day and albuterol four times a day. Both of these are inhalers and each dose is two puffs. So 12 puffs a day.
I went to my new PC a couple of weeks ago and he asked me about it. I explained that I do not really use either unless I feel terrible. I dislike the way albuterol feels – a lot. It makes my heart race and hands shake.
Symbicort does not bother me but I do not take it regularly just because,I only take it if I am having trouble breathing which reminds me to take it. He mentioned that the recommendations for symbicort had changed recently and now symbicort can be used as a rescue med. I have used my symbicort so much more since I found out it works.
I went looking for information, as one does, and found the studies talking about using symbicort rather than albuterol and it seems pretty cut & dried that the symbicort works BETTER than albuterol.
