Sewing Makes me Tense

A Lesson

I have been trying to teach myself how to sew better. That does snot seem grammatically correct.

So I picked a couple of small projects to learn with. First one went okay.

Second one – went meh… but then also turned out to be not what I needed.

So third one. I was working on it today and I had to stop. I just kept getting more and more tense. So I stopped in order to collect myself and investigate my sudden onset of caring about mistakes. OH! That is it.

I learn best my making mistakes. When I am trying to learn a new pattern with yarn I made a mistake, I redo the row. I make the mistake again and by now I can see what I am doing wrong so I fix it. Then hopefully I do not make the same mistake too many more times.

When I am sewing if I make a mistake at the least I have to spend a lot time undoing my work and that always leaves a mar in the fabric. At the most, I ruin whatever piece I am working on.

So, that is what I learned today.

    It’s much worse with sewing!

Maybe that’s why I don’t do a lot of sewing. Just the bare minimum.

Sewing is certainly less forgiving. When I was in high school, I took sewing and I enjoyed it but never really pursued after high school. I made a gray skirt and jacket. I wish I had saved it or had pictures of it.
