Doctors!

We love to hate them

The other day I posted this little meme and I thought the reaction was interesting. So many people have experienced this.

I have been very lucky in the last 20 years in finding doctors who listen and react and truly want me to be as healthy as possible. They have fought with insurance companies, they have thought outside the box. BUT in the past I have also experienced this. I had a doctor tell me how to change my diet and what I was doing wrong without ever asking me what I actually ate. How does that work?

And of course there was the doctor who’s answer to everything was, let’s wait and see.

So here is my question – how much blame goes on the doctor and how much blame goes on us, and my personal favorite, how much blame goes on the healthcare system? Even on my very bestest insurance plan, the ultimate cream of the crop insurance for gainfully employed middle-class people you were only allowed to switch your primary care doctor ONCE and of course the doctor had to be in their preferred listing. So, if you picked a doctor right away, which you had to do, and did not like that doctor you had to really think about it before you switched. How many times have you heard people asking “does anyone have a primary recommendation?”.

How about medication? I have had so much medication prescribed because that particular med had to be tried and fail before they could switch me to a med that they knew would work better for me. ‽

Just another fail we have created in our society. We make our healthcare professionals go into decades of debt and then tell them not to use their education and judgement but to follow instead what the for profit multi-billion dollar insurance companies say they should do. NOT BITTER AT ALL!

I went to breakfast with just my son-in-law yesterday. It was nice to talk to just him. I wish they lived closer to me.

Also – AMBIEN! OH Holy Heck! I took a full dose of ambien for the first time because I just needed some sleep – now the pills are so old that the label was faded and I didn’t actually know they were ambien until I investigated a couple of days later. When I get pills that I don’t take often I write in bold sharpie on the bottle what they are for. So these were labeled sleep and boy did I sleep! When I first got them a long long time ago I never took more than half a dose and didn’t think they worked well. But dude! I took an Ambien and woke up 7 hours later with things all discombobulated. I had fallen asleep holding my tablet and face book was open with a post start that said something like hgueisghgtshfd5haikgh. 75hahtt9y.

I took it a second night and fell asleep playing a game, again holding my tablet. That is when I finally looked out see what I was taking.

This was a very weird post! off to the shower. 🙂 Be kind.

Well you know me. This is a huge pet peeve of mine. The insurance industry has ruined healthcare.
I’ve had all of those issues but until you mentioned it, I hadn’t given any thoughts to me new (young) doctor telling me what I’m doing wrong diet wise. I just sat there listened then tried to tell her what I actually do and Ondidnfeelmloke an idiot defending myself feelin like I was probably not being believed. Way too much past experience with doctors blowing ppl off.
But what’s worse about the way they practice now is that new doctors are coming into this system having never practiced any other way. I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse.
But I am super glad you’ve found good ones and are still here kicking it with us!!!
I hope the Ambien at least maybe broke the cycle of not sleeping well.
How nice that your son in-law likes you enough to wanna have lunch!
