The Stars & Stripes

A very smart friend of mine said something recently about the American flag having become a symbol for the followers of Donald Trump. I’ve been thinking about it a lot. When you say to me picture a person with an American flag I do in fact picture someone who is angry and frequently standing next to someone carrying a confederate flag.

So here’s my plan for the country to start healing and in my opinion just as importantly to make sure this period in history does not get repeated.

  1. Take back the flag. Go ahead and put an American 🇺🇸 Flag decal on your car right next to your Unity Sticker. Fly it in your yard or attached to a cute garden stake. How about a Stars & Stripes t-shirt?
  2. People in D.C. government should start talking openly and honestly about the last four years. Take your bravery lead from Dr. Fauci and just be honest. Not to do a tell all or make some money but to make sure that there are no more secrets, that we don’t normalize a pseudo democracy that had autocratic leanings.

There you go, that’s my political post for the week.

  1. Totally agree!

  2. I have been thinking about this for a long time. I think I don’t feel as patriotic about the flag as a lot of people are. I am frustrated how it was co-opted though.

    1. I think that’s how I feel too. It’s not a patriotism thing, it’s a hey – give it back to me, thing. Good pinpointing for me there! I didn’t even realize it.
